Hello I'm Melinda
I am the founder of Soul Space Yoga
I was drawn to Yoga Therapy as a pathway for mental health support, rehabilitation, pain management, and self-led healing. Working with a bottom up framework as nervous system support, my approach centres compassionate, relational support alongside agency & autonomy.
Guiding individuals to rebuild inner capacity through movement, embodiment, and nervous-system-informed care.
My work weaves anatomical knowledge, somatic intelligence, nervous system awareness, philosophy, and a secular spiritual framework that honours each individual’s sense of soul — including those who do not resonate with spirituality at all.
Credentials
I hold a Bachelor’s degree from Wilfrid Laurier University, with advanced studies in cultural and social studies alongside extensive mental health focused certifications and various trauma & equity based training. I also maintain ongoing education in anatomy, nervous system regulation, and somatic-based modalities.
I am also a certified ERYT® and YACEP® with the International Yoga Alliance, currently completing my certification as a C-IAYT® with the International Association of Yoga Therapists.
My Approach
Non- Pathologized
I work from an approach that honours lived experience rather than labels or diagnoses, supporting autonomy, dignity, and self-led healing.

Bio-Psycho-Social
Sessions integrate physical movement, nervous system regulation, and emotional context to support the whole person - not just symptoms.

Collaboration Not 'Fixing'
This work is relational and supportive. We move together with curiosity and consent, rather than trying to “correct” or override the body.

My work is grounded in the integration of movement, nervous system awareness, and personal meaning-making.
Science + Spirit
Grounded in Science
My work is informed by anatomy, nervous system science, psychology, and somatic-based practices.
I approach movement and healing through an understanding of how the body and brain communicate, and how regulation and resilience can be supported through intentional movement, breath, and awareness.
All work is trauma-informed, consent-based, and adaptable to individual needs.
Honouring Spirit
Alongside science-based approaches, I hold space for meaning-making, intuition, and personal belief. This work is non-secular and does not require spiritual belief; rather, it honours each individual’s personal sense of purpose, inner wisdom, or sense of soul.
Spiritual language and archetypal frameworks are offered as optional tools for reflection and embodiment, never as doctrine or expectation.
Modalities & Therapeutic Foundations
The nervous system plays a central role in how we experience stress, safety, pain, and connection. Nervous system support focuses on building resilience and flexibility in system responses, rather than forcing relaxation or “fixing” symptoms.
Through individualized movement, breath, and awareness practices, sessions support vagal tone, regulation, and allostasis - helping the body respond more adaptively to daily life, stressors, and recovery.
Myofascial release is a self-applied therapeutic practice that works with fascia — the interconnected web of connective tissue that supports the body from head to toe.
By gently releasing adhesions and areas of holding, this practice can reduce physical tension, support mobility, and create a sense of ease within the body. Myofascial release also supports parasympathetic nervous system activation, helping release what the physical and emotional body may be holding within the tissues.
Sessions may include guidance on self-application and the optional use of supportive tools.
Mindfulness and meditation practices support awareness, clarity, and emotional regulation by gently reshaping habitual thought patterns.
These practices help reduce rumination and mental spiraling, enhance creativity, and cultivate a greater sense of presence. Regular meditation has been shown to support sleep quality, stress reduction, blood pressure regulation, and overall nervous system health, while strengthening body awareness and self-connection.
Practices are accessible, adaptable, and offered without expectation of prior experience.
Supportive movement includes intentional practices designed to meet the body where it is. Sessions may incorporate functional movement, yoga, therapeutic somatics, or other embodied approaches depending on individual needs and goals.
Movement practices are slow, adaptive, and available to all bodies - no experience required. The focus is on cultivating safety, sensory awareness, and sustainable movement patterns that support overall wellbeing and embodiment.
This work is experience-led and client-centred, focusing on how individuals live, feel, and move within their bodies — not on diagnosing or treating medical or mental health conditions.
Yoga therapy and movement support are designed to complement, not replace, clinical care. When appropriate, collaboration with licensed healthcare providers may be recommended to ensure practices are safe and supportive within a broader care plan.
Clients often seek support for stress patterns, pain experiences, recovery, mobility limitations, nervous system regulation, and overall wellbeing. Care is guided by individual experience, autonomy, and informed choice.
